You think about what step to do next, whether your feet are in the right place, whether your partner will ever dance with you again...  After a while, these worries subside a little bit.  You start to improve and you start to wonder if there are any other songs you could be dancing to.  Then you get into the annoying point where you start trying to classify the dance for every song you hear on the radio.  I'm still in that stage, even after dancing for 10 years.
